I found this photo of Rosa's house in the town of Sao Roque on the island of Pico. I was surprised by the ray of sun that I didn't see until I looked at the pictures I took that day.
Rosa taught me how to embroider. I was mesmerized. I learned all the basics and a few more complex stitches like the Portuguese Stem stitch and the Velvet stitch.
I remember sitting on the stoop that is shown at her front door learning how to do a type of weaving on a big frame. I'm not sure what it is called but we used a shuttle wrapped with #8 DMC thread. (Isn't it amazing how long DMC thread has been around!)
I'll have to look this technique up and see if I can find it. But for now I must keep working on the 'Elegant' pattern and the videos.
